St. Niklaus Day
On the 5th and 6th of December, Early Years celebrated St. Niklaus Day. Miss Bagnall has Dutch family and one of the children from our class is from another country where they celebrate the same festival!
We found out all about the traditions of St. Niklaus across Europe and Miss Bagnall brought in some special things to talk about how she celebrates with her family, including a Dutch flag, some clogs and a very special Dutch embroidery that belongs to her Mum. We also tried some Dutch biscuits and listened to some Dutch music.
We all shined and cleaned our shoes before putting them on the windowsill like the child in our class who celebrates the festival does and we left them overnight. Guess what… St. Niklaus came and he brought us each a special festive treat.
This was a lovely thing to share together and really helped our children to understand how big the world is, how different people live in different ways and how important it is to be tolerant.
