Year 4 Bell Boating

17th March 2022

On Thursday 17th March Year 4 will be going bell boating in the Stourport Basin. Children will eat lunch at school and then will be back before the end of the school day. The bell-boat is a twin-hulled, stable craft with up to 12 people in a crew, who are seated and propel the boat with single-bladed paddles. All the crew will be wearing buoyancy aids. The focus is on working as a team.

Children will need to:
i. wear clothing suitable for the weather. Plenty of layers work well (t-shirt, sweat-top, fleece, joggers or tracksuit) to allow for changes in temperature throughout the morning. Jeans are not suitable.
ii. bring a hat and gloves and/or suntan lotion and a sun-hat (dependent on the weather).
iii. bring spare clothes and a towel in one bag.
iv. bring a separate bag (to be taken on the boat) containing a substantial snack, drinks and waterproofs (ideally, waterproof trousers as well).

Footwear
Trainers or sturdy shoes should be worn. Children should NOT wear wellies – they are unsuitable near deeper water. Please also take note of the precautions contained in the information overleaf.

Information about payment for this trip can be found on your parent pay.

We are looking for parent volunteers to come for the afternoon to give us some power in the boats so if you are interested please let Miss Perry or Miss Porter know as soon as possible.

Please keep this email as it contains all the essential guidance and information.

We are looking forward to taking part in this unique activity.
