Well done to Florence in Year 3.

We received a lovely email from Mum on Sunday 28th May 2023.

“Florence worked so hard to get to 7th place in the UK open Feis in Warwick today!

We are so proud of her!”

Well done Florence.

We are very proud of you too.

Three generations of family’s service to Hartlebury school

A Hartlebury mother and daughter served the village school for 55 years – and now the third generation is keeping up the family tradition.

Chelsea Maughan, aged 30, is following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother after being appointed a lunchtime supervisor at Hartlebury CE Primary School.

Her mum Tracy Maughan, aged 58, was also a lunchtime supervisor, cleaner, classroom and swimming lesson helper there for 15 years, until taking up care work around 2006.

Grandma Val Wooldridge, aged 84, served the school as caretaker, lollipop lady and lunchtime supervisor for 40 years. Her retirement, in 2006, was marked with a letter from the Queen in recognition of her long service.

Chelsea, whose sons Noah and Hunter, aged six and five, are pupils at the school, said: “We are fifth generation in the village, with four generations attending the school – my grandad Stanley Wooldridge, my uncle and mum, me and my two brothers and now my children.”

Tracy added: “There are so many connections across the generations and it’s lovely to have that kind of bond at what is a really friendly village school. If ever anyone needed anything, or any support for any reason, they’d be there for you.”

Head of school Sophie Bartlett, who has taught at Hartlebury for 19 years, said she was “delighted” to appoint Chelsea – who is one of her former pupils.

She added: “It’s wonderful to see the generations grow up and this family’s commitment and service to our school is phenomenal. It demonstrates that we truly are at the heart of the community.”

During National Recycling Week, Holly and Evan created a poster for the company their Mum Charlene works for.

The children were invited to create a poster promoting the benefits of recycling – (Mrs Branagh-Wall who is our Eco Lead, was very excited about this!)

Holly won for her age group (7-11) and Evan came runner up in the younger group with his drawing of a Shark eating Litter!

We done Holly and Evan. We are all very proud of you.

We hope you both enjoy spending the book vouchers that you won!

We are very proud of Zac in Year 5 who received the precious beagle bowl trophy and stableford medal at Ombersley golf club awards ceremony.

Zac won the beagle bowl trophy for beating all of the juniors at Ombersley golf club.

Zac will now go on to compete on the Robert Rock golf tour this season.

Well done Zac! Good luck in the next competition.

Kip McGrath Award

Lily in Year 3 achieved a medal for reaching 1000 points at Kip McGrath Education Services.

Lily attends Kip McGrath weekly from 4.00pm until 5.00pm for extra help with her work.

Lily’s Mum is so proud of her she emailed us to tell us…

“Lily has homework set by Kip McGrath as well as her school work. She does it all without any moaning and takes great pride in it. Lily’s determination to get better at Reading and English has blown me away. We have seen such an improvement in Lily, we are very proud of her & she is very proud of herself!”

Well done Lily. We are all very proud of you too!

Keep up the hard work!

Josh at the Velodrome

Josh in Year 4 wanted me to send us a picture of him at the velodrome on Saturday 25th February 2023.

This was his first go at it and it is very different to riding a normal bike. There are no brakes or gears on a track bike and you can’t free-wheel either. So, once you start pedalling you can’t stop at any moment or you will fall. Speed adjustments can only be made by gradual slowing/speeding up of your leg speed so it takes a good half a lap to slow down enough to come to a stop (usually by holding on to the central barrier as your feet are strapped onto the pedals).

You can only really appreciate the skill of track cycling once you’ve had a go yourself, riding within an inch of the wheel in front, having riders around you with no ability to stop.

The corner banking’s are also incredibly steep, and need to be seen in person to appreciate!

Josh was quite nervous to begin with but took to it so well and was beaming with pride in himself when he completed the session.

He did a timed flying lap as well as moving the bike through cones up on the blue line on the straight sections.

He is excited to go again on the 11th March 2023 with a bit of extra confidence in himself and his abilities.

Wow Josh. You are a superstar!

Hermione – Cyclo-Cross Champion

Hermione was awarded a prize for winning the Under 6 girls category for the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League 2022/23. Cyclo-cross is a cycling discipline that is ridden in the winter over a grassy, muddy and undulating circuit.

At the adult levels there are additional obstacles you encounter such as steps, steep hills and planks which often require you to jump off your bike and run with it on your shoulder. Hermione competed in 12 races and won 5 of these.

The last few races were in very muddy conditions which really tested Hermione but she was determined to win a medal so kept on racing, even if it meant she had to push her bike through the really muddy bits.

Well done Hermione. We are super proud of you!

One Big Idea – Finalists

Two of our youngest children attended the SAET final of the ‘One Big Idea’ on Tuesday 28th March 2023.

After designing their ‘Flower Power Machine’ and winning the class and school vote, they went through to the final competing against teams from the other SAET primary schools.

Eleanor and Zienna, both just five years old, stood in front of the judging panel to share their idea detailing how the machine plants seeds to grow into flowers.

By growing more flowers “we help the bees and the butterflies. Bees get pollen and help more flowers grow”.

We are so very proud of them for their wonderful design and the huge confidence to present in the final. We truly are ‘Growing Brilliance’.

Easter Craft and Bonnet Parade

Our youngest children (Pre-School, Reception, Years 1 and 2) were invited to take part in an Easter Bonnet Parade on Thursday 30th March 2023.

Parents were invited to come and join the whole school in watching the Easter Bonnet Parade and it was loved by the whole school. It was really lovely to see all of the beautiful bonnets that had been made and chocolate eggs awarded for all that took part.

Children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) were invited to create an Easter craft project for entry into a competition. It was very hard to choose winners as they were all so fabulous, but the overall winners were:

1st place – Hope

2nd place – Jessica

3rd place – Olivia

4th place – Jack R

5th place – Eliza

Well done everyone, you are all brilliant!

Please see all of our wonderful creations in the Gallery.

One Big Idea Finals 2023 – Winner Annoucement

We have once again worked collaboratively with all SAET primary schools to pose a challenge to all of our children – to develop ‘One Big Idea’ that may possibly change the world!

After a whole school vote, our entry this year was the ‘Flower Power Machine’, an invention created by Eleanor and Zienna, from our Reception Class, to grow more flowers to encourage more bees.

Mrs Hall accompanied our representatives to the SAET Trust Offices on Tuesday 28th March 2023, where they presented their idea beautifully to a panel of 3 judges.

We were not the winners of the competition but we had an amazing time taking part.

Our pupils were the youngest children to submit a winning school entry and greatly impressed all of those who took part; we are very proud of them both!

Please click on the following link and watch the video to find out who this years winners were…

One Big Idea Finals 2023 – Winner Announcement

Hartlebury Election

Move over Biden and Trump, the Hartlebury election is here!

On Wednesday 11th November 2020, we elected our two new councilors, to represent our wonderful school as part of the Seat Trust Youth Council. This is a council where two children from each of the Year 6 classes in every primary school in our trust, discuss issues which affects our schools and how they can make them better.

The children in Year 6 were given the opportunity to write their own speech to tell the other children in the school why they would make an excellent representative. They then had to deliver this speech to the whole of Key Stage 2 virtually, and then all the children had a chance to vote. Four children read fantastic and very professional speeches, but in the end, when all the votes were counted, our winners were…Daisy and Georgia! Well done girls!

Daisy and Georgia will be representing Hartlebury at their first Seat Council meeting tomorrow and we know they will be brilliant!

School Games GOLD Mark Award

We are delighted to announce that we, Hartlebury CofE Primary, have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

With a total of 53 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to all of the staff and parents who have supported us in taking children to sports events this year. We look forward to applying once again in 2024!

Year 3 Polar Express Afternoon

Year 3 enjoyed a Polar Express themed Christmas movie afternoon on Tuesday 19th December 2023.

This exciting afternoon was to thank the children for a brilliant first term for Miss Williams, who joined us as a newly qualified teacher in September this year!

Children entered the Polar Express with their golden ticket and joined in with a ‘hot chocolate’ dance.

The children then enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks as they watched Christmas films.

A brilliant end of term treat for the children!

House Afternoon

On Monday 18th December 2023, the children enjoyed a house afternoon.

All of the children gathered together in their houses and took part in a competition against the other houses to see who could make the longest paper chain.

We saw amazing teamwork from all of the children and it was brilliant to see the older children supporting the younger children.

The winning House for the most amount of points last term was Hilditch with a total of 1045 points.

Well done all!

Code of Conduct and Ambassador Awards

Our Code of Conduct awards, the highest award we can give for consistently demonstrating great behaviour, went to the following children at the end of last term:

Our highest awards in school are our Ambassadors Awards. These are normally reserved for children at the very top of the school, usually Year 6.

It is an award for children who represent our school in the most positive way and as such takes time to achieve. They are our role models. They are the BEST advert our school could ever ask for!

Our Alder classmates, Olivia and Aaron, received these awards at the end of term.

Congratulations to all of these children receiving Code of Conduct and Ambassador Awards; we look forward to rewarding more of our fabulous children throughout the year.

Year 6 Post-SATs Treat Day

Year 6 have had a wonderful post-SATs treat day on Friday 17th May 2024.

They all boarded the train from Hartlebury Station and travelled to Worcester where the children spent the day at Mulligan’s playing mini golf.

The children had pizza and waffle fries for lunch before playing another game of mini golf.

Year 6 ended their day with Twister ice lollies at Worcester Train Station before heading back to Hartlebury by train.

Thank you so much to Imogen from Platform Rail for helping us with our rail transport and thank you to Mulligan’s for your hospitality.

We hope you had a great day Year 6, a very well-deserved treat!

One Big Solution Winners!

Big-thinkers from Hartlebury CE Primary School beat off strong competition to scoop first place in a contest with their solution to the global scourge of litter pollution.

The annual Big Idea competition, run for primary schools within the Wyre Forest-based Severn Academies Educational Trust, invited pupils to choose a world-wide problem and come up with plans to solve it.

The Hartlebury team wowed the judges with their teamwork and plans for robot litter pickers and won £1,000 for their school.

Teams of children from Years 3 and 4 from the trust’s six primary schools spent a day identifying, discussing and solving issues including famine, climate change and mental health and wellbeing.

Each school team was supported by their two Year 6 Trust Council leaders, who helped to guide them.

Judges, including environmental expert Daisy Askins, from Astley Skylarks, trust chair of trustees Wendy Taylor and senior trust officials, chose Hartlebury as the stand-out group.

Organiser Ian James, Executive Headteacher of St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School, said: “It was a tough decision as all the teams showed great understanding, excellent teamwork and came up with a host of super solutions.”

The other schools taking part were Far Forest Lea Memorial CE Primary Academy, Stourport Primary Academy, Wilden All Saints CE Primary School and Wolverley Sebright Primary Academy.

Well done Hartlebury….We are so proud to have won!

Well Done Seb and Mummy!

We received a wonderful email from Seb’s Mum and we wanted to share how proud of him we are!

Seb took part in his first ever Park Run in the Wyre Forest last Sunday 2nd June 2024.

This entails running 2k with other children, up and around the hilly terrain of the forest!

He completed it in just over 14 minutes and came 18th in his age category.

There were 54 children competing so he did exceptionally well for his first go, and at 4 years old!!!

We took a sweaty selfie of us both at the end of the race too!

Well done Seb and your lovely Mum.

What an achievement!

As a reward for the children’s hard work towards the nativity over the Christmas period, Year 2 enjoyed a Polar Express themed Christmas party in class. They were all invited to come in to school dressed in their pyjamas to ‘board’ the Polar Express, just like the boy in the film!

As you can see from the fabulous picture above, they all had a wonderful time on the Polar Express and thoroughly deserved their reward!

Well Done Year 2!

SafetyMARK

Great News!

Our School has been recognized by The National Safety Certification Scheme for Schools, known as SafetyMARK, as having ‘excellent’ safety standards.

The SafetyMARK scheme aims to provide guidance for schools and to recognize and reward those schools that have gone the extra mile to create a safe environment for staff, pupils, visitors and contractors. After a rigorous independent audit process over the last two terms school has demonstrated that it has first class levels of safety management and compliance and has achieved the SafetyMARK award for excellence.

Justin Smith of SafetyMARK stated that our school, “has a really positive attitude with regard to health and safety and it is clear to see that safety is taken extremely seriously and that it is very well managed. The staff have established a robust health and safety system and culture that is amongst the best in the country and we are delighted to recognize that fact with this prestigious award”. WOW! We were impressed!! We are thrilled to be recognized with the SafetyMARK award and thank Mr Plant for all his support in getting us up to speed.

We take the safety of our staff and pupils extremely seriously and it’s wonderful to have this recognition for all of our efforts to make our school such a safe place to work and learn.

We have been awarded our Silver School Games Mark again for 2018/19!! Great news!! We have now been awarded this every year since 2012.

Thank you to Miss Branagh, who has led us towards this success!

Hartlebury Gardening Club

77th Annual Show – 7 September 2019  – Be inspired for next year’s 78th Show!

Another hot, sunny year which seems to have favoured flowers and vegetables, though some came early and had past their best by show day.  The warm, dry weather has continued into September prolonging some crops and fooling others into starting again. Entries were up again and the show was well attended so a big thank you for your support!

A very big Well Done to one of children Daisy, who won the Endeavour Cup for the Most points in Children’s Art. All winners can be viewed in the Parish Magazine with a special mention for our school that says…‘Thank you to the pupils and staff of Hartlebury Primary School for their colourful and very imaginative art display’.

The afternoon was well supported and there was a lovely atmosphere.

Pickup Artists

Noah completed his longest paddle of 4.95 miles on Saturday 12th September 2020, with Wyre Forest Canoe Club. Noah was a part of a litter pick along the waterways of the area.

Noah started at Caunsall and paddled the stretch right down to the Watermill public house in Kidderminster, collecting lots of rubbish along the way, with a team on the bank clearing the hedges and carrying the collected rubbish in bags. Great job done and a great day was had by all.

Wow Noah you really are a true credit to your family, our school and our community!

Litter picking, helping the homeless, wildlife protection..these are all amazing qualities you have and show the world what a kind hearted, caring person you are.

Well done you little superstar!

Please look in our gallery for more fabulous photos of Noah and his amazing achievement.

Happy Hartlebury High Schoolers

How lovely to see our  grown up Year 6 children from last academic year in their Stourport High School uniform.

We think you boys look very smart and we wish you and all our leavers from last year, the very best of luck with your move to High School.

Active Challenge

During April 2020, the children took part in active challenges set by the Wyre Forest Sports Partnership. Every photo or video submitted to the partnership via their social media platforms counted as a point for Hartlebury.

As a result of all of the children’s hard work, Hartlebury had the most posts/interactions over the last month and WON £175 of equipment vouchers for schools.

Using the sports vouchers we purchased a new class set of hockey sticks which Year 4 are currently using in their PE lessons to develop their hockey progress.

Well done everyone. Great effort!
