Year 6 Geography Fieldwork Tip

On Tuesday 14th November 2023, Year 6 went to Stourport-on-Severn to take part in a geography fieldwork trip with the Canal and River Trust.

We started our day off with a talk about safety around the water. The children were very sensible and were able to clearly identify hazards around the water. Next, we took part in a river mapping activity. Using rope, children created their own River Severn, labelling the key features and towns/cities along the river. Then, we went on a river walk along the Severn, looking at man-made features such as locks, bridges and pontoons. We then reached the confluence where the River Stour meets the River Severn and looked at the fast-flowing current.

After lunch, we took part in two activities. The first was looking at plastic and how this can have an impact on the rivers and the environment around it. Our final activity of the day was an art activity. Children spent time sketching the river and the man made features a long it.

We had a brilliant day and we were so impressed with the children’s attitude and behaviour throughout the day.

Thank you to the parents for helping with transport and thank you to the volunteers (Eliza, Shirley, Val & Jill) from the Canal and River Trust for such a great day!
